HSANZ Albert Baike Memorial Medal & Award

The Albert Baikie Memorial Medal is given to recognise the best presentation, either oral or poster, at the Annual Scientific Meeting, by a new investigator who is a financial member of HSANZ. The winner receives a $5,000 prize and is presented with the Albert Baikie Memorial Medal.

This prestigious award is open to new investigators who were awarded their postgraduate qualification (MSc, FRACP, FRCPA or PhD) within the past 5 years. 

Special consideration may be made by Council for those people who wish to apply for but who, for other reasons, completed their postgraduate qualification more than 5 years ago.

Conditions:

  1. Applicants must be financial and either full, trainee or associate members of HSANZ by the time of the Annual Scientific Meeting. You may apply for membership at the same time as you submit your abstract. You can apply for membership at www.hsanz.org.au
  2. Membership applications must be received by the HSANZ by 1st June 2024.
  3. Only ONE abstract can be nominated by each applicant - applications are made when submitting your abstract to Blood 2024.
  4. Previous winners of the award are ineligible.

All applications that meet the criteria above will be assessed by a sub-committee of the HSANZ and will be judged on the quality and originality of the work and presentation. Top applicants will be invited to give an oral presentation in the Baikie Award session during Blood 2024, the winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner during the Meeting. 

Recipients of travel grants are eligible for the Albert Baikie Award.


2025 Highlights of ASH Registration Awards

A number of grants are available consisting of free registration and travel support for a Trainee to attend Highlights of ASH 

Recipients will be chosen from Abstract submissions, recognising the best presentations either oral or poster at the Annual Scientific Meeting, Blood, by a new investigator who is a financial member of HSANZ.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be financial trainee members of HSANZ by the time of the Annual Scientific Meeting. You may apply for membership at the same time as you submit your application for this award. Membership forms are available at www.hsanz.org.au. Membership applications must be received by the HSANZ office at the time of submission.
  2. Previous attendees of Highlights of ASH or ASH are ineligible.

All applications that meet the criteria above will be assessed by a sub-committee of the HSANZ Council and will be judged on the quality and originality of the work and presentation. Recipients of travel grants are eligible for Highlights of ASH registration awards.

Following attendance at the meeting recipients are required to submit a brief report outlining their meeting activities and learning experience.


HSANZ Nursing Group Best Oral Prize

An award given to the presenter from the free communications sessions with an abstract and presentation that demonstrates a high level of evidence-based practice in a Haematological field. The abstract needs to be presented in the requested format and within constraints. The presentation should be clearly delivered, relevant to current practice and demonstrate excellence in the field of Haematology nursing.

The Best oral presentation will be awarded $1000 and be judged by the nurse’s council in conjunction with the local organising committee.


HSANZ Nursing Group Poster Prize

An award given to the presenter of the best poster exhibited on the floor at the Blood conference. The best poster winner will have submitted an abstract in the requested format and constraints and the poster will be evidence based, focussed on haematology nursing and relevant to current practice. In addition the poster will be easy to read, clear and focus attention to relevant aspects of the area of study. The presenter or their proxy should be available at the poster viewing session of the Blood conference to discuss their poster and its content.

The Best Poster will be awarded $1000 and be judged by the nurse’s council in conjunction with the local organising committee


HSANZ Nursing Group Best First Time Oral Presentation

This award will be given to the presenter from the nurses program, (free communications and invited) that has never presented before at a National conference. The presentation should be relevant to current Haematology nursing practice and be delivered in a clear and informative way and within time constraints. The recipient will have demonstrated excellence in the field of Haematology nursing and related disciplines.

The Best first time Oral Presentation will be awarded by the Nurses council to ensure fairness for invited speakers.
